Short Term Rentals

If you are having issues with a short term rental and have already attempted to contact the Local Contact for the unit, you may report a complaint by either completing an online form or calling the hotline.

Where STRs Are Allowed

With a valid STR permit, short-term rentals are allowed in the following zoning districts:

  • General Development One (G-1)
  • General Development Five (G-5)
  • General Residential (R-2)
  • Resort Residential (R-3)
  • Rural Residential (RR)
  • Lake Quinault (LQ)
  • General Commercial (C-2)

Renewals

STR permits must be renewed annually at least 30 days prior to expiration.


Exemptions

STR permits are not required for properties approved for short-term rental use under a Conditional Use Permit or Planned Unit Development approved prior to March 22, 2022. Properties located within incorporated cities must follow the applicable city regulations.  If the property has changed ownership and the STR was permitted under a Conditional Use Permit, please contact the Planning Division as additional requirements may apply to the new property owners.
