Permitting Process

The permitting process guides property owners, contractors, and developers through the steps required to obtain approval for construction and development projects in unincorporated Grays Harbor County. Whether you are building a new structure, remodeling, grading, or changing the use of a property, permits help ensure projects meet adopted building, zoning, environmental, and safety standards. This page outlines the general permitting process, application requirements, and resources available to help you prepare a complete submission and move your project through review as efficiently as possible.

What Is a Site Plan?

A site plan is a drawing that shows both existing features and proposed changes to a property. It illustrates how your project will fit on the land and relate to surrounding features.

Site plans are used to:

  • Show what currently exists and what is being proposed
  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations
