Law Enforcement Services

Deputies provide a wide range of services to residents. Services include civil services, concealed pistol licenses, and other general law enforcement assistance.  Certain requirements must be met for document service, and some documents may not be accepted for service unless specific conditions apply.

What We Do

Vacation House Watch Requests

Residents leaving town can request deputies check their home while they are away.  Click to complete the request form while you are away.

Forest Products Permit Validation

Validation service for forest product hauling permits to transport or harvest Specialized Forest Products is available during regular business hours.  There is a $20.00 charge when a permit is validated.

Scam Alerts & Fraud Awareness

Common scams reported in the county include fake IRS calls demanding payment and calls pretending to be law enforcement asking for money.  The Sheriff’s Office will never ask for payment or gift cards over the phone.

Cold Weather Pet Safety

Cold weather can be dangerous for pets, even those with thick fur.   Pets are vulnerable to cold temperatures, especially if they are young, older, or have health issues.

  • When temperatures drop below freezing, keep pets indoors whenever possible.
  • Outdoor hazards increase in winter.
  • Cats may seek warmth under vehicle hoods, where they can be seriously injured when the engine starts - before starting your car, tap or bang on the hood to give animals a chance to escape. Snow and ice can make it easier for pets to become lost - always make sure your pet wears ID tags so they can be returned safely.
  • Chemicals such as salt and antifreeze can stick to your pet’s paws and fur. After being outside, wipe your pet’s legs and stomach to prevent them from ingesting harmful substances.
  • If your dog has short hair, consider using a coat or sweater during cold weather to help keep them warm.
  • Never leave a pet in a vehicle during cold weather. Cars can trap cold air and quickly become dangerous.
  • Pets that spend more time outdoors may need extra food during winter. A higher-calorie diet can help maintain their energy and body heat.

Cold weather safety is about prevention. Small steps—like keeping pets indoors, checking vehicles, and cleaning paws—can prevent serious injury or illness.
