Ways to Get Involved

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Best for: Residents who want hands-on emergency response training

Learn how to safely help during emergencies. CERT training covers basic disaster response skills like fire safety, light search and rescue, and first aid so you can support your neighborhood when help may be delayed.

Citizen Corps

Best for: Residents who want to stay informed and support community preparedness

Join a network of community members working to improve local preparedness. Participate in meetings, learn about local risks, and help support outreach and emergency readiness efforts across the county.

Medical Reserve Corps

Best for: Medical and public health professionals or students

Use your medical or public health skills to support the community during emergencies. Volunteers assist with vaccinations, health screenings, and other public health needs when extra support is required.

Additional Opportunities

More Ways to Help

Emergency Management Volunteers

Best for: Residents who want flexible volunteer opportunities

Support preparedness efforts year-round. Volunteers help with community events, public education, distributing materials, and assisting Emergency Management staff during incidents.

Amateur Radio (AEC)

Best for: Licensed amateur radio operators or those interested in emergency communications

Provide critical communication support when normal systems are down. Trained volunteers help connect emergency responders using radio, internet, and other communication tools during disasters.

Training & Events

Best for: Anyone who wants to build emergency preparedness skills

Take part in classes, drills, and community events like the Great ShakeOut and preparedness expos. These opportunities help you build skills and stay ready.

What Volunteers Do & How to Join

Volunteers support emergency preparedness, public education, communication, and response efforts across the county. Opportunities vary by program and may include training, meetings, exercises, or helping during emergencies.

Choose the program that best fits your interests and skills. Then contact Emergency Management to learn about current opportunities, training, and how to participate.
