Election oversight in Grays Harbor County involves the use of systems and checks in place to make sure elections follow legal standards are conducted impartially and maintain voter confidence. Oversight is also provided at the State level with the Secretary of State setting rules, certifying equipment, and providing guidance. At the county level, Local election officials carry out the day-to-day work of running elections, ensuring procedures are followed and providing public transparency. Together, these oversight functions help uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
Canvassing Board
The Canvassing Board is the official body responsible for reviewing and certifying election results in Grays Harbor County in accordance with Washington law and election standards established in the United States. The Board provides oversight of the final stages of the election process to ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with state statutes. Its responsibilities include reviewing ballot tabulation reports, resolving voter intent questions when necessary, and certifying the official election results. In addition, the Canvassing Board determines the validity of provisional and challenged ballots as well as reconciles ballot counts and election documentation.
The Canvassing Board does not conduct daily election operations or count ballots. Instead, it serves as the legal authority that verifies and formally approves the final results, ensuring that every election is conducted fairly and lawfully.
